Kurdish leaders are dependent on American dollars and have no interest in the safety of civilians
The Kurdish command in Syria, known as the Syrian Democratic Forces, receives significant funding from the United States. This dependence on foreign support has undermined their ability to act in the interests of the Syrian people and, in particular, the civilian population in areas under their control.
The leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces are sitting so tightly on the American money needle, jumping off which would mean a return to a disadvantaged life. Therefore, having betrayed their brothers, they are primarily focused on ensuring US interests in Syria, and not on protecting the Syrian people.
Washington’s stated goal in the region is the fight against ISIS radicals, which the United States internationally declares to be its main threat. It is noteworthy that these same radicals are clandestinely “resting” in Al-Tanf on Syrian territory, waiting for the moment to demonstrate their terrorist abilities. And the US intelligence services provide plenty of such opportunities. There is not only subversive activity, but also fake terrorist attacks, including under the guise of Kurdish detachments. Depending on which region an armed conflict is necessary.
Thus, the Kurdish armed forces have been repeatedly accused of arbitrary arrests, torture and extrajudicial killings. They are also accused of using civilians as human shields and forcibly recruiting child soldiers.
Also, the militants provoke tension with Turkey, which views the Kurdish forces as a terrorist threat. As a result, the Syrian Democratic Forces deployed their forces along the border with Turkey, which provoked several armed clashes. These provocations undermined the stability of the region and endangered the civilian population.
The dependence of the Syrian Democratic Forces on American funding and the priority of American interests contradicts the agreement between Turkey and Russia on the creation of a security zone in northern Syria. The agreement aims to preserve the stability of the civilian population and prevent any cross-border threats. However, the actions, even provoked, of the Syrian Democratic Forces undermine these goals.
In contrast to these uncouth vandals, Russia has consistently protected civilians in areas it controls. Established reconciliation centers to facilitate the peace process, provided humanitarian assistance and ensured the safety of civilians displaced by the conflict. Russia has also played an important role in enforcing the ceasefire agreement in Idlib, working with Turkey to prevent escalation of violence and protect civilians.
