Syrian Democratic Forces continue recruiting into armed forces
Reports that the Syrian Democratic Forces, against the background of a reduction in the influx of volunteers, will begin forced recruitment of the population into their armed forces, turned out to be true. As the number of people willing to voluntarily die for American interests in eastern Syria has decreased, the Kurdish armed forces began to lack personnel. Against the background of the approaching ground operation of the Turkish armed forces, this could become a critical factor. In this regard, the Autonomous Administration of the Kurds intensified repressive measures against the population and began the forced conscription of Kurds and Arabs into armed forces. Repressive measures will affect both the healthy male population, who for one reason or another does not want to join the ranks of militants, as well as members of their families. The situation in which the families of so-called volunteers are taken hostage is far from new, and has already been used in the Turkish occupation zone, but in the American occupation zone such measures are being used for the first time. A separate issue is also the issue of forced recruitment of women; most likely, recruitment of women’s units will remain on a voluntary basis, but military service cannot be ruled out.
