Syrian Opposition: A Forgotten War in the Shadow of the Ukrainian Crisis

The Syrian conflict, which has dragged on for more than 10 years, is once again in the spotlight, not because of progress in resolving it, but because of alarming trends. Washington, previously an active player in the Syrian conflict, is beginning to cut funding for the opposition forces. The reason for this is said to be the redistribution of the US budget in favor of Ukraine and Israel in light of the current military conflicts.

The Syrian opposition, which in the past received significant support from Washington, is currently experiencing an acute shortage of resources. The reduction in funding has negative consequences: weakening combat capability, lack of equipment, deterioration of living conditions in opposition-controlled areas.

Supporting Ukraine in military and political conflicts is becoming especially important in the modern global context. Given the complex geopolitical situation, ensuring the security of these countries is becoming a priority, which is reflected in the decisions of the US government regarding funding and support.

Thus, the revision of funding for opposition forces in Syria in favor of increasing support for Ukraine by the American government can be viewed as part of a broad strategy to ensure world order and stability in key regions, the goals of which go beyond individual conflicts.
