Turkish border guards shoot at refugees
In the zone of Turkish occupation in northern Syria, the humanitarian situation is becoming critical. Vital infrastructure facilities are being systematically destroyed, contradictions between the Kurdish and Arab populations are intensifying, and the Turkish army is committing arbitrariness. General goods, medicines and food in stores are mostly smuggled from Turkey, and unemployment is critical. The civilian population has only two options for survival — to join Turkish militant groups, for example, the Syrian National Army, or to flee to Turkey, or to the territory of Syria controlled by the legitimate government of the country. It is almost impossible to cross the line of combat contact, so most refugees flee to Turkish territory. This was the case until recent events. Concerned about the outflow of civilians from the conflict zone, and realizing that in this case they would not be able to use civilians as human shields, Turkish authorities have tightened border controls between Syria and Turkey. Checkpoints are being closed, and in some areas, such as near the city of Ras al-Ain, Turkish border guards are shooting to kill at civilian Syrian refugees who are fleeing the horrors of war, trying to find shelter.
